Sugeban Restaurant And Café Pontianak

With so many restaurants opening every week, it takes a good restaurant to survive the competitive market, and it takes a better one to continuously stay at the forefront of the industry. Sugeban Restaurant or the locals usually call it Ayam Sugeban (lit. "Sugeban's Chicken) is one of them.

Have been running for more than 20 years Sugeban never fails of catching her customers, there are two Sugebans we visit, the first one which is also the oldest one is located on Jalan Teuku Umar, while this one is on Jalan Alianyang. 

The moment we stepped in this restaurant, we were amazed, by how green it was and how neatly the tables are in order,also we noticed that there's 3 parts or 3 types of places here.

The first part is the cafe look alike site, with the sofas and well lit place, it is a good site to arrange/have a meeting or simply talk about business.

Moving on to the second part, it's more family like in here i'd say. You could choose between the classic local "lesehan" style or just ordinary sittings. I don't recommend this one for couples or groupies though, but it might be good for families.

And the last site, the outdoors. It really looks like a lounge, with many plants and a large pond filled with goldfish makes a calm and un-rushed environment to dine at. 

Well of course good place is nothing without good foods. They have a large selection of foods from asian dishes like chicken katsu till the locals like sayur asam pedas and of course their most special dishes which is ayam sugeban. 

Here are some foods we ordered :

Chicken Katsu. IDR 30k

The chicken katsu they offered was very crispy with large chicken portion on the middle, and the appetizing vegetable salad. The only concern are there are still some chicken bones inside the katsu which makes it hard to eat.

Fish and Chips. IDR 25k

It's very crispy and the fish are very fresh too. The french fries are ordinary though.

Beef Teriyaki. IDR 35k

The teriyaki sauce is a bit disappointing i'd say. But overall it's good, with fresh beef and vegetables.

Fruit Platter. IDR 25k

I've always wanted something refreshing for the desserts, so here it is. The melons are really fresh and sweet, it's really good for a desserts.

It's my personal taste but I'd give a B+ for the food and an A for the place. My visit to Sugeban was really fantastic with the cheap prices and super cozy atmosphere and the ambiance during the night really sets up the mood.
